How your generosity is making a real difference
We’d love to share with you the wonderful stories of Ben and Sophie.
Ben’s Story
In 2024, we donated £25,000 to The Daisy Garland to help Ben and other children suffering from drug-resistant epilepsy.

Daisy Garland have been supporting Ben and his family for fifteen and a half years. Thanks to the ketogenic diet and their help Ben went from an unresponsive little boy in a pushchair, wearing a crash helmet to a healthy rugby playing teenager (see above).
Now Ben has absolutely smashed his GCSEs with grades 9, 8, three 7s, three 6s and two 5s. This was the boy who was predicted would never recover from his epilepsy, would be cognitively impaired and probably go to a special school. The ketogenic diet changed all that and I hope you’ll agree, his story gives hopes to others.
After celebrating his results at the school prom (below), he is going onto do his A’ levels, with the hope of joining the police in the future.

Sophie’s journey

In 2022, Phoenix Fun Events raised funds for The RETT Syndrome Research Trust.
This is Sophia on the way home from the Evelina Children’s Hospital in August. They were checking whether her movements (freezing and stopping breathing) were epilepsy related, so she had an EEG strapped to her head for 48 hours. The RETT Syndrome Research Trust charity paid for a medical taxi to take her home after having it fitted. They took it off after three days which was interesting with all the glue! The charity is hoping there will be a trial in the Autumn of 2025 to try to cure this terrible condition.
EEG is the abbreviation for Electroencephalogram, a diagnostic test that records the electrical activity of the brain through sensors placed on the scalp. This non-invasive procedure helps doctors detect and monitor conditions like epilepsy, seizures, sleep disorders, dementia and brain tumours by analysing brainwave patterns.
